To utilize AI, it is effective to properly link the data output by various services and software. When AI apps first became commonplace, each service had to respond in its own way, but at the time of writing, there is a growing trend to adopt the data linking protocol ' Model Context Protocol (MCP) ' developed by AI company Anthropic, making data linking easier.
A2A was developed by Google as a protocol to complement MCP, enabling collaboration between 'AI agents' that use AI to autonomously perform routine tasks. At the time of its announcement in April 2025, A2A was promised to be supported by more than 50 companies, including Atlassian, Salesforce, and PayPal.

Microsoft has announced that it will support A2A in Azure AI Foundry and Copilot Studio on May 7, 2025. With both products supporting A2A, users will be able to safely call the output of AI agents running outside of Microsoft while maintaining governance and service level agreements (SLAs).

Support for A2A in Azure AI Foundry and Copilot Studio is in development and will be available in preview soon, and Microsoft has also committed to contributing to the development of A2A itself.
Following the news that Microsoft will be supporting A2A, Google posted a welcoming post on its official X account:
We released the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol as #OpenSource and are excited to see today's news from @Microsoft to support A2A! 🎉
