Deep Research is an AI search agent built into Gemini that can automatically browse hundreds of websites to generate answers to user questions. Until now, only those who subscribed to the paid service 'Gemini Advanced' could use it, but from March 13, 2025, anyone can use it for free.

Deep Research is available from the following page. Free users are limited to a few times a month.

At the time of writing, Deep Research is selected as the default feature of 'Gemini', and you can change the model by clicking 'Gemini' in the upper left corner of the screen.

I actually tried sending a prompt.

Deep Research first presents a research plan. The user can choose to run the search according to this plan or edit the plan. In this case, I clicked 'Start Research' to run the search.

When you run a search, Deep Research traverses websites according to your research plan, making 'inferences' from what it finds and automatically adjusting what to search for next. While it's inferring, the screen shows you the websites Deep Research has visited.

After a few seconds, Deep Research presents the answer, broken down into a number of sections with a detailed explanation, as well as a button to export the answer to a Google document called “Export to Docs.”

By clicking on the icon at the end of each entry, you can see what websites Deep Research referred to.

At the end of the answer, a list of websites that Deep Research referred to and the thought process used in the inference were displayed.

Google has also developed a model that combines speed and performance , Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental , and has announced that it has upgraded this model to improve processing efficiency and speed. In addition, Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental has been applied to Deep Research and released to Gemini Advanced users.

Google is also experimenting with a feature called Google Analytics that will allow it to access its browser and YouTube search history to generate answers, with the user's permission. This feature is available to Gemini Advanced users at the time of writing.

In addition, Gems, a feature that allows users to customize Gemini to create agents tailored to the user, is also available to all users. Gems can be configured through the Gemini app, allowing users to customize their own Gems, such as a translator, meal planner, or math teacher.
