Meta has announced a new video editing function using generative AI, based on the video generation AI ' Movie Gen. ' This video editing function uses AI to automatically change various elements of the subject in the video, such as their clothing and location.

The new AI video editing feature is intuitive and easy to use, allowing anyone to create high-quality videos without specialized video editing knowledge. A video editing feature with more than 50 preset editing prompts is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2025. The AI video editing feature will be available free of charge for a limited time, but only 10-second videos can be edited. The service is available in the United States and more than 12 countries around the world.

Below is an example of video editing. The subject's clothing has been changed.

The AI video editing feature allows you to select preset prompts and let Meta AI edit your video to fit a scenario selected by you, turning your video into a graphic novel style or vintage comic book illustration style.

You can also change the lighting in your rainy day videos to make them sparkle, add pearlescent blur, or create a dreamy atmosphere with soft focus.

Edited videos can be shared directly to Facebook and Instagram, and videos edited with Meta AI can be shared directly to your Discover feed.

'Leveraging our existing AI research, we are bringing to market the first generative AI video editing capabilities, empowering people to express themselves, connect with others, and bring their greatest ideas to life through video,' Meta wrote.

The Verge wrote about their experience using the AI video editing feature, saying, 'I actually tried this feature, but the results were not as good as the examples on Meta's website. I uploaded a video of my parents' dogs digging holes in the backyard and asked Meta AI to make it look like they were in the desert. The result was that the ground turned orange, there were some cacti in the foreground and background, and for some reason the dogs started to sparkle.'
