In order to directly respond to the need for an app that makes it easy to create short videos, Meta has been working with Instagram creators since 2024 to try out various concepts and incorporate their feedback to create 'Edits.' The existence of the app was revealed by Adam Mosseri in January 2025 and was scheduled to be released in March 2024, but was delayed by about a month.

Edits allows you to complete the entire process of video creation, from organizing your ideas to managing your project, shooting, editing, and outputting without watermarks, all within a single app.
The shooting function allows for up to 10 minutes of recording.
Using Green Screen, you can easily replace and edit backgrounds with just one tap.
If you have an idea for a video, you can write it down. You can also add notes to your reel videos.
You can save trending music reel videos and use them as inspiration.
Manage multiple projects at once. If you stop working, you can pick up where you left off the next time.
Editing using the timeline allows for precise placement and adjustment of clips.
You'll be able to access all of Instagram's music and sound library, including songs and audio files saved on Instagram.
The automatic caption feature supports multiple languages.
It's also easy to cut out a specific subject.
AI can generate animation even from photos that don't have any movement.
You can instantly share your videos on Instagram or Facebook, or export them without a watermark and post them to your favorite platform.
You can also check the metrics for the videos you've posted.
Further improvements will be made in the future, including the addition of keyframe functionality, AI effects to change the atmosphere, and the ability to collaborate on projects with friends and other creators. Fonts, animations, transitions, voice effects, filters, music, and more will also be added to express your creativity.
'Edits' is available for iOS and Android, and both can be used for free by logging in with your Instagram account.
