Sony Group's consolidated sales for fiscal year 2024, excluding the financial services segment, are expected to increase 7% year-on-year to 12,043.9 billion yen, while Sony's consolidated sales are expected to remain unchanged at 12,957.1 billion yen. Overall operating profit is expected to increase 16% year-on-year to 1,407.2 billion yen.

Looking at the results by segment, Game & Network Services performed well, with sales of 4.67 trillion yen and operating profit of 414.8 billion yen.

However, sales forecast for fiscal 2025, before the impact of tariffs, is expected to decline to 4.3 trillion yen.

According to the document, while increased sales of in-house and non-in-house developed game software are positive factors, reduced hardware revenue due to a decrease in unit sales and the impact of exchange rates are cited as negative factors.
The supplemental data shows that PlayStation 5 sales are declining to 20.8 million units in 2023 and 18.5 million units in 2024. Meanwhile, software sales are increasing from 286.4 million to 303.3 million units.

The PlayStation 5 sold a record 9.5 million units in the third quarter of 2024, but sales in all other quarters were lower than the previous year.

The impact of the Trump tariffs is estimated to be around 100 billion yen. CFO Tao Lin suggested that the tariffs would be passed on to the company in price, i.e., a price increase, to reduce the impact on earnings. However, he did not specifically refer to the PlayStation 5.
By the way, the price of the PlayStation 5 has been increased in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand since 2025. Prices vary depending on the edition, but in Japan it can be purchased for around 70,000 to 80,000 yen. The PlayStation 5 was in short supply for a while after its release, but at the time of writing, it was easily available on Amazon.co.jp and other sites.
