According to a report from Bloomberg, Google is expanding its content-linked ad delivery service, Google AdSense , to include ads not only in search results on third-party websites, but also in interactions with AI chatbots.
Until now, the online search market has been dominated by Google. However, in recent years, AI-based search platforms such as OpenAI and Perplexity AI have emerged and are competing with Google. Since Google's parent company, Alphabet, still relies on advertising, which is Google's main source of revenue, the company seems to be considering placing advertisements on AI chatbots to increase advertising revenue.
Google has also been testing 'displaying ads in AI searches' with AI startups such as iAsk and Liner , and this move follows on from those tests, according to the people.

According to Bloomberg, Google will earn more than $198 billion in search advertising revenue in 2024, accounting for about 60% of Alphabet's total sales. However, user behavior is changing with the emergence of AI chatbots. In response to this, Google seems to be considering embedding ads directly into AI chatbots.
'AdSense for search is available for websites that want to show relevant ads through a conversational AI experience,' a Google spokesperson told
Google rival Perplexity AI is building direct relationships with advertisers to enable sponsorship of follow-up queries on its platform, according to Bloomberg. Liner, which targets students and research-oriented users, shows them targeted ads that are highly relevant to them, an approach that harkens back to Google's early days, CEO Luke Jin-woo Kim told Bloomberg.
