Intel reportedly in talks to take over AMD's CPU manufacturing

Intel and AMD are fierce rivals in the CPU market, and recently, foreign media outlet Semafor reported that Intel has begun negotiations to produce AMD's CPUs in its own factories.

Intel is able to both design and manufacture semiconductors in-house, whereas AMD designs its own CPUs and GPUs but outsources manufacturing to foundries such as TSMC.
In 2021, under the leadership of former CEO Pat Gelsinger, Intel announced a plan to expand its foundry services called ' IDM 2.0 ,' aiming to improve profits by producing semiconductors designed by other companies at Intel's factories.

Semafor reported that Intel is in early discussions with AMD to add it as a customer for its fabs, citing people familiar with the matter. However, it is unclear which process Intel is considering.
Intel is working to reduce the size of its semiconductor manufacturing process to catch up with TSMC, but it is reported that it is struggling to build the manufacturing technology for the 18A (1.8nm) process by August 2025.
