Generative fill is an image editing feature that uses AI, allowing you to do things like 'generate the entire image with AI,' 'overlay an image generated by AI on top of an image,' 'splice an image outside the image with AI,' and 'generate a new background with AI.' Photoshop is equipped with image generation AI, and it is now possible to quickly execute operations such as 'add a subject of your choice to an image' and 'change the background to something else' simply by instructing in Japanese, so I tried using it - GIGAZINE

Until now, the only image generation AI available for generative fill was 'Firefly' developed by Adobe, but now you can also choose between 'Gemini 2.5 Flash Image' and 'FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]'.

Gemini 2.5 Flash Image is a high-performance AI model that can use natural language commands to perform operations such as

'making an illustration look like a figure photograph,' 'coloring a black-and-white image,' and 'changing clothing.' By using Gemini 2.5 Flash Image in Photoshop, you can smoothly edit the subject's clothing, specify their pose, and then use various Photoshop functions to edit the image.

FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] also allows you to incorporate AI-powered processing into your Photoshop editing workflow. Black Forest Labs claims it runs three times faster than competing models, providing a seamless experience.

The ability to select Gemini 2.5 Flash Image and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] is currently being tested in the beta version of Photoshop.

To use Photoshop, you need to sign up for Adobe's subscription service. There are various plans available, but if you only want to use Photoshop, the 'Photo Plan,' which includes Photoshop and Lightroom, is cheaper than the Photoshop standalone plan. If you sign up through the Adobe official website, you can use it for 28,480 yen per year. An online code for the Photo Plan is also available on Amazon.co.jp, and at the time of writing, a 12-month online code is available for 25,632 yen (tax included).
