Family Hub is a refrigerator with a display on the door, allowing you to see and manage your ingredients without opening the door. You can remotely check the contents of your refrigerator from your smartphone and search for recipes based on the contents of your refrigerator, making it useful for planning your shopping and meals.

Family Hub users received an update notification from Samsung around September 16, 2025. The following is the update notification

In April 2025, The Verge asked Jeong Seung Moon, executive vice president of Samsung's digital home appliance business and head of the research and development team, whether the company planned to advertise on the Family Hub screen. Moon replied , 'We have no plans to include advertising. Our future policy will be determined based on what best meets our customers' needs.'
When Android Authority, a media outlet that publishes Android-related news, contacted Samsung, Samsung officially acknowledged that ads would be displayed in Family Hub and responded as follows:
A Samsung spokesperson said, 'At Samsung, we're committed to adding value and innovation to our customers' everyday home appliances. As part of our ongoing efforts to increase that value, we're running a pilot program in the US market to offer advertising on select Family Hub refrigerator models. As part of the pilot program, ads will appear on select Family Hub cover screens. The cover screens are displayed when the Family Hub screen is in idle mode. The ad design may change depending on the personalization options for the Family Hub cover screen. Additionally, ads will not appear when Art Mode or a photo album is displayed on the cover screen. Ads can be closed on cover screens where ads appear, meaning that a particular ad will not appear again during the campaign period.'
The Family Hub is available in models ranging from $1,800 to $3,500, and it's unclear at the time of writing how many ads will be displayed on each model. While ads can't be hidden in settings, the statement said that setting the cover screen to art or photos will prevent ads, so it's possible to switch to a non-advertising approach.
The Reddit post has drawn criticism such as, 'Isn't it illegal to make people buy a refrigerator worth hundreds of thousands of yen and then have ads displayed on it later?' and 'The 'ongoing effort to improve daily value and innovation for our customers' claim is a complete lie; Samsung is trying to make even more profit from products they've already purchased.' Other comments include, 'I have a Samsung smart washing machine, but I don't see much point in smart appliances since I still need to put laundry in and take it out. Making everything smart isn't always a good thing.'
