'iPhone 17 Pro' quick photo review: The aluminum body gives it a completely different look

The iPhone 17 Pro uses a newly designed body called 'hot-forged aluminum unibody,' which gives it a completely different appearance from the previous model. I got the iPhone 17 Pro as soon as it was released, so I took a closer look at its appearance.

The iPhone 17 Pro comes in three colors: Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. I bought the Cosmic Orange.

When I opened the box, the iPhone 17 Pro was inside with its distinctive back exposed.

In addition to the iPhone 17 Pro itself, the box also contained a USB Type-C cable and cardboard.

The cardboard was meant to explain that the iPhone 17 Pro does not have a SIM card slot and requires the use of an eSIM. Apple Store staff also repeatedly advised iPhone buyers to use an eSIM.

The iPhone 17 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2622 x 1206 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Its maximum brightness is 1000 nits under normal conditions and its peak brightness is 3000 nits outdoors.
There's a Dynamic Island at the top of the screen, and it also has an 18-megapixel front camera.

The actual bezel width was approximately 1.5 mm.

The back looks like this. The different colored parts have a smooth texture.

The camera consists of three cameras: a 48-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera.

Although Apple's official website states that the camera offers 'up to 8x optical zoom,' the 48-megapixel camera only allows for up to 4x zoom, and 8x zoom is achieved by cropping the image to 12 megapixels.

The left side is equipped with an action button and a volume adjustment button.

The right side houses the side buttons and camera controls.

The dimensions are 71.9mm wide x 150.0mm high x 8.75mm thick. The thickest part of the camera was measured at about 13mm.

The actual weight was measured at 205g.

It looks like this when you hold it in your hand to get an idea of the size.

The iPhone 16 Pro has a frame that wraps around the entire perimeter, and the back is made entirely of glass.

The iPhone 17 Pro features a hot-forged aluminum unibody, with the seamless perimeter and back made of aluminum, and the lighter-colored back is inlaid with Ceramic Shield, a proprietary, highly crack-resistant glass.

The iPhone 17 Pro is 8.75mm thin, while the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thin.

The thickness of the camera side is like this.

The iPhone 17 Pro is significantly thicker than the thinnest iPhone Air ever made, which means there's a big difference in battery capacity. Apple claims the iPhone Air has a maximum video playback time of 27 hours, while the iPhone 17 Pro has a maximum video playback time of 33 hours.

The top side where the camera is located is also thicker on the iPhone 17 Pro. Instead, the iPhone 17 Pro has a triple camera setup.

The 256GB model of the iPhone 17 Pro is priced at 179,800 yen (tax included). It is also available on Amazon.co.jp, but is out of stock at the time of writing.

We plan to publish an article examining the camera and processing performance of the iPhone 17 Pro at a later date.
