This feature was offered on a trial basis to a limited number of creators, including MrBeast , Mark Rober , and Jamie Oliver , as part of a two-year pilot program starting in 2023.

Initially, creators had to use third-party dubbing services to prepare their voiceovers, but YouTube has since introduced its own AI-powered auto-dubbing tool.

Creators who have tested the feature have seen an average of more than 25% of their watch time come from viewers in languages other than the primary language of their videos, and YouTube reports that Jamie Oliver's channel saw a three-fold increase in views after implementing the multilingual audio feature.

YouTube is also working with some creators to test a 'multilingual thumbnail' feature that will display images optimized for viewers' language settings, starting in June 2025.
