Vids is a timeline-based video editing app whose main purpose is to help you create videos to communicate work-related information. Vids is equipped with Google's AI, so if you enter text about the type of video you want to create, the AI will provide you with a rough outline of the video.

On August 27, 2025, Google announced an update to Vids. The new addition is a generative AI tool that allows users to create short videos simply by uploading a single image and entering prompts for the video they want to create.

To use the new feature, click 'Image' under 'AI video clip' to add an image.
Once the image is added, enter the text you want to create and click 'Generate.'
In the demo, videos are generated of sneakers dancing and a large number of sneakers multiplying. Multiple short videos can also be combined into a single video.
In addition to adding new features, the company also announced that it will release the basic version of Vids for free to general users. The free version of Vids is a basic video editing app that does not include Gemini and has limited use of AI.
To use Vids, log in to your Google account, access the Google Workspace Vids page, and click 'Log in to Google Vids.'
Free users can choose from a variety of options: 'Record,' which allows you to record yourself or your PC's screen to create a video; 'Upload,' which allows you to upload and edit content from Google Drive or your PC; 'Templates,' which allows you to choose from templates; 'Convert Slides,' which allows you to convert slides into videos; and 'Blank Video,' which allows you to create a video from scratch in timeline format.
Vishnu Shivaji, product director at Vids, told The Verge, 'Vids has received rave reviews from customers because it saves them time and money on producing business videos, which can cost hundreds of thousands of yen for a 10-minute video. The free version of Vids includes almost all of the great features in the app, but it does not include the AI-generated avatar feature that delivers messages on your behalf or the AI-powered short video creation feature, which will be released on the same day.'
