Intel's stock price has fallen by more than half over the past four years, and the company is undergoing a variety of business overhauls, including a CEO change , staff cuts , and stock sales .

According to a Bloomberg report, the Donald Trump administration is in talks to acquire a stake in American-owned Intel in an effort to save the company.

The deal will help Intel strengthen its plans to build a factory in Ohio, a person familiar with the matter said. The size of the investment was not disclosed.

Following the news, Intel's stock price rose by about 8.9%.

Bloomberg reports that the plan was born out of a meeting between Intel CEO Lip-Vu Tan and President Trump.

On August 7, 2025, President Trump suddenly demanded that CEO Tan resign. He simply stated that 'Intel's CEO has a serious conflict of interest,' without providing further details. However, it is believed that the underlying reason for this was suspicions that CEO Tan may have ties to the Chinese Communist Party. However, shortly after this statement, it was reported that CEO Tan met directly with President Trump in an effort to restore trust. At the time, President Trump said, 'Mr. Tan plans to bring me various proposals.'

Intel CEO Tan, who was asked to resign by President Trump, met with Trump in person and released a message to employees saying, 'I love America and fully support the president's decision.'

An Intel spokesperson said: 'We deeply support President Trump's efforts to strengthen technology and manufacturing leadership. We look forward to working with the Trump Administration to advance these priorities, but we do not comment on rumors or speculation.'
