What is Rainstorm, the first wellness energy drink to hit Japan? We tried it and found out.

The American energy drink brand 'Rainstorm' has landed in Japan, and two types, ' Rainstorm Guava Strawberry ' and ' Rainstorm Harvest Grape,' will appear on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. As it is a 'wellness energy drink' using plant-derived ingredients, a sample was sent to the GIGAZINE editorial department, so I tried drinking it first to see what wellness means.

On the left is 'Rainstorm Guava Strawberry' and on the right is 'Rainstorm Harvest Grape.'

First, I will try 'Rainstorm Guava Strawberry'.

The package states 'nutritional functional food' in the bottom left corner. It contains vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B6 , niacin, and zinc. The strawberry and guava illustrations on the package are for illustrative purposes only; it contains no fruit juice.

'Zero sugar' was also listed.

The ingredients are as follows: ginseng root extract, green tea extract, guarana seed extract, citric acid, carbonic acid, flavoring, sodium citrate, vitamin C, caffeine, sweeteners (sucralose, stevia), zinc gluconate, coloring, niacin, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B6 , vitamin A, biotin, and vitamin B12 . The coloring is beta-carotene and purple sweet potato pigment, indicating that it is plant-derived. It has 0 calories. It contains 100 mg of caffeine per 250 ml bottle. The wellness energy drink 'Rainstorm' is unique in that not only its ingredients and coloring, but also its caffeine is plant-derived, and it contains no preservatives.

I poured the contents into a clear glass.

It's light yellow in color and highly carbonated, with lots of bubbles on the inside of the glass.

The scent is quite strong, reminiscent of strawberries. The sweetness lingers in your mouth, and you can sense a slightly unique flavor behind the artificial strawberry aroma. It doesn't have the typical energy drink flavor, more like a sweet carbonated juice, so even those who don't like the flavor of energy drinks should be able to drink it without any problems.

Next time I'll try Rainstorm Harvest Grape.

The words 'nutritional functional food' are written on the bottom left.

And zero sugar.

The ingredients are aged ginseng root extract, green tea extract, guarana seed extract, citric acid, carbonic acid, sodium citrate, flavoring, vitamin C, caffeine, sweeteners (sucralose, acesulfame potassium, stevia), grape juice color, zinc gluconate, niacin, calcium pantothenate, vitamin B6 , vitamin A, biotin, and vitamin B12 . Calories are 0kcal, and the caffeine content is 100mg per 250ml bottle.

I poured it into a clear glass.

The color is a slightly dark purple, and the carbonation bubbles are firmly attached to the inside of the glass.

When I drank it, I noticed a scent reminiscent of grapes. However, it smelled more like grape juice and not like real grapes. The sweetness was a little milder than the 'Guava Strawberry,' but it lingered in my mouth and had a slightly medicinal aftertaste. However, it didn't have the flavor of a typical energy drink, and I found it quite easy to drink.

'Rainstorm Guava Strawberry' and 'Rainstorm Harvest Grape' will be available for purchase at convenience stores, drugstores, supermarkets, vending machines, etc. nationwide from Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Both are priced at 185 yen (excluding tax).
