Nintendo's patent uses accessories to transform the Joy-Con into a realistic fishing controller.
Nintendo has also used cardboard parts to transform the Joy-Con into a fishing rod with the Nintendo Labo 'Fishing Toy-Con.'

However, the new patent describes a mechanism that uses a mouse sensor (red box) to detect the action of reeling in a fishing rod. While the Joy-Con does not have a mouse sensor, the Joy-Con 2 does have one.
Additionally, the dedicated accessories are attached to the Joy-Con controllers with magnets (red frame), similar to how the Joy-Con 2 is attached to the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Therefore, Polygon, a gaming media outlet, pointed out that this new patent clearly refers to the Joy-Con 2.

Not all of Nintendo's patent applications will become products, but Polygon points out that 'new Animal Crossing games may be able to more realistically depict fishing.'
