Dropbox announces the discontinuation of its password manager 'Dropbox Passwords,' urging users to migrate their passwords before the service shuts down

Dropbox, the online storage service, has announced that it will be shutting down its password manager, Dropbox Passwords . The service will be phased out, with the end of the service planned for October 28, 2025.

According to Dropbox, the reason for discontinuing Dropbox Passwords is 'part of our efforts to focus on improving our other core products.'

Users can continue to use Dropbox Passwords as usual until August 28, 2025. After that date, the mobile app and browser extension will become read-only, preventing users from adding new passwords. Autofill functionality will also be removed.

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the mobile app will be shut down and only the browser extension will be available.

Finally, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the browser extension will also become unavailable, and the Dropbox Passwords service will be shut down.

Dropbox has announced that when it shuts down its service, it will completely erase all registered password information for each user stored on its servers. If you want to retrieve your data, you can export all login information and payment card information as a CSV file. Dropbox recommends using a browser extension to perform the export process.

Dropbox recommends using alternative services such as 1Password. If you want to transfer your data stored in Dropbox Passwords to 1Password, simply add the Dropbox Passwords browser extension to your web browser toolbar and select 'Migrate to 1Password.'
