A 1/180 scale model of the 'R-TYPE' dimensional fighter jet is released as a 500 yen capsule toy & a summary of STG robots at Wonder Festival 2025 [Summer]; are seabirds the only ones to warmly welcome you in Makuhari in the summer?

The 'R-TYPE' series, one of

the three major horizontal STGs, has been a popular title since its first release in 1987. In the latest work at the time of writing, R-TYPE FINAL3 EVOLVED ( R-TYPE FINAL2 ), it is possible to play with over 100 types of player units, and such player units will be released by Toys Cabin in November 2025 as capsule toys for 500 yen. Samples were exhibited at Wonder Festival 2025 [Summer] held on July 27, 2025, so we checked out the STG units exhibited at the venue, including the general dealer booths.

The prototype for the 'R-TYPE 1/180 Dimensional Fighter Collection' is made by MODEL SQUAD , a model manufacturer in Nagoya. We arrived at the MODEL SQUAD booth (dealer number: 8-06-02) in the corporate area.

A sample of the 'R-TYPE 1/180 Dimensional Fighter Collection' was placed in front of a monitor displaying the 'R-TYPE FINAL 2' game screen.

R-99 Last Dancer and Standard Force. They are 1/180 scale, so the body size is about 95mm.

The exhibited product was just a prototype sample, and the final product will have additional moldings to improve the details. Still, for a 500 yen capsule toy, it's quite sturdy and worth displaying. MODEL SQUAD

commented in X that they named it 'Team R-TYPE' and spent a year creating it.

Standard Force looks like this. You can put it before or after R-99 Last Dancer.

TP-2 Paw Armor. Appears in the original R-Type as a character that gives out power-up items.

B-5C Platinum Heart. It is based on the Paw Armor, but it is equipped with a wave motion gun unit, so it can be used as a player's aircraft. The 'R-TYPE 1/180 Dimensional Fighter Collection' will have a secret addition, making a total of five types, but of course the secret has not been revealed.

Also on display at the MODEL SQUAD booth was a 1/72 scale garage kit of the R-99 Last Dancer.

R-100 Curtain Call

R-101 Grand Finale

R-9D2 Morning Star

R-9Sk2 Dominions

R-9SkZ Lucifer

OFX-4 Songoku

TR-01 Hector, which can also transform into a humanoid form. It is scheduled to be released in 2025, and the sample on display had only been sprayed with surfacer and was not painted. Since it was a sample printed by a 3D printer, the level of completion is expected to be further improved in the future.

Next, I checked out the STG robots I saw at the general booth. At Hirofus (5-04-16), R-9 and Force kits were on display, which were pixel art reproductions. The prototype was made by

Hirofus , and the price was 5,000 yen. Force had only one power-up kit removed.

When viewed from the side, it looks like a pixelated game screen, but when viewed from an angle, you can see that it is properly three-dimensional.

At 72GHOST (5-06-06), the Black Fly, the player's ship in Taito's side-scrolling STG

Metal Black , was on display. The prototype was made by Keitaro , and the finished sample was made by Semirai .

Attaching the boosters for leaving the atmosphere.

By rearranging the parts, it can be changed to three different modes: 'when equipped with the booster for leaving the atmosphere,' 'when releasing energy,' and 'when landing.' By collecting the mysterious substance 'neurons,' the Black Fly's gauge increases, and by releasing the energy, it can fire a powerful beam.

PBBuilders (5-06-08) was selling an original kit that could be assembled using plastic blocks . This was Upaupa and Opa-Opa from Sega's STG ' Fantasy Zone .' The price was 1,800 yen.

The Silver Hawk from '

Darius Gaiden ' is on display as a reference. The use of plastic model blocks gives it a pixelated look, creating a retro game feel.

Vic Viper, the ship of Konami's STG '

Gradius '. The yellow round object on the bottom left is an option. The price is 2000 yen.

The wizard Nata de Cotton, the player's ship in the

Cotton series, costs 3,000 yen.

To commemorate the porting of Taito's STG 'Night Strikers' as '

Operation Night Strikers ,' RC Berg (3-37-04) exhibited a 1/32 scale pearl white kit of the Intergray Xsi, the player's ship from 'Night Strikers.' This is a re-release of a kit that was previously sold, but it uses color resin cast for the molding color, so it will have a finish close to the image even without painting. The price is 33,000 yen including tax, and reservations will be accepted from 10:00 on Sunday, July 27th. Below is the humanoid figure mode.

It can also transform into hover mode. Two pilot figures are included, one standing and one sitting, and the one shown at the venue was a standing pilot. The prototype was made by KuWa, and the painted sample was by Wopa.

It was at the booth of Spaya (6-09-11) that the title screen of '

Tatsujin-oh, ' a super-difficult STG by Toaplan, caught my eye.

The machine looks like this.

Next to it was the RVR-02B from 'Thunder Force V.'
