The paperback version of 'The Brave and the Corporate Life' that I ordered from Amazon has arrived. Amazon's paperbacks are printed and bound after an order is placed, so at the time of writing the article, it took about 6 days for express delivery and about 10 days for regular delivery.

When creating a paperback, it is necessary to leave margins on all four sides so that the text does not get cut off during printing. In 'The Part-Time Life of a Hero and a Corporate Slave,' we have devised a layout for some pages, such as the frontispiece, so that the pages can be printed to the very edge.



The comics for 'The Part-time Life of a Hero and a Salaryman' were created using

Adobe Indesign , which allows you to display the 'margins' on the top, bottom, left, and right of the screen you are working on, where content (mainly text) should not be placed, and the 'bleed' area that needs to be expanded if you want to print content to the edge, so I designed it to print to the edge of the page by creating it accordingly. For example, on the page below, the leftmost one is the bleed border, which is an area that will not be printed, but if you want to print to the edge of the page, it is an area that needs to be expanded to avoid 'white areas remaining due to printing misalignment.' The second border from the outside is a normal page. The third line is the 'margin' area, and text needs to be placed inside the margin line to prevent it from being cut off due to printing misalignment.



In addition to the frontispiece, some panels with strong visual impact have been enlarged to the edge of the page to enhance their impact.



In addition, the paperback version also includes a bonus manga drawn specifically for the comic. Kuzuru and his friends work at a game company where they are so stuck at work that they can't go home from work, but one day they are taken on an overnight 'company trip.' It's not going to end as just a short trip to relax, with the hero's party members invited too... In 'Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)' for publishing on Amazon, you need to pass an automatic check in the browser previewer before registering and publishing the data for paperback. This time, when I uploaded the first data, the display was misaligned on all pages and an error occurred, as shown below.



After some research, we found that the problem was with the data export settings. Paperbacks are exported as PDFs, and the 'export format' must be set to 'pages.' Paperbacks have different settings for margins, bleed, and other aspects on the left and right pages, so they must be set to 'spread format' when created. However, if you select 'spread' when exporting, the PDF will end up with 'two manga spreads per PDF page' rather than 'one manga page per PDF page,' which causes a large discrepancy in the online preview.



After checking the settings and uploading again, no errors were displayed in the previewer and I was able to publish.
