Mercedes-Benz has released the latest version of the 'Meetings for Teams' app for using Microsoft Teams, a video conferencing tool, in the car. This update allows drivers to participate in video conferences using the in-car camera while driving. Mercedes-Benz explained that 'because we place a high priority on safety, the use of the camera complies with the laws of each country and is approved for use while moving.'
To minimize distractions and maximize safety while driving, the meeting video stream automatically turns off when the camera is activated, so the driver cannot see any shared screens or slides. Additionally, the camera can be turned off at any time.
Regarding this, technology media The Verge reported that 'Mercedes-Benz is the first car manufacturer to enable the use of Microsoft Teams with on-board cameras while driving.' Normally, video conferencing apps such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and WebEx can only be used when the car is stopped. In contrast, Mercedes-Benz's new feature allows Microsoft Teams to be used while driving.

Mercedes-Benz is also working with Microsoft to integrate Microsoft 365 Copilot into its newest vehicles, a first for the car, allowing drivers to summarise emails and manage daily tasks via voice assistant.
Mercedes-Benz also announced that Microsoft Intune , Microsoft's cloud-based endpoint management platform, will be natively integrated into its vehicle operating system, MB.OS.
Mercedes-Benz is proudly advertising these updates as 'potential to transform the car into a third workspace to complement the office and home office,' but The Verge wrote, 'With smartphones and laptops providing enough workspace, there's no desire to work while driving.'
Mercedes-Benz says that Microsoft Teams will be available via the onboard camera only on the new CLA, but the latest E-Class models are equipped with onboard cameras for taking selfies that can be used with TikTok, Zoom, etc., so it is possible that Microsoft Teams will be available via the onboard camera while driving in these vehicles as well, The Verge points out.
