Manga artist Yuuna Sasaki talks about the secret story behind the birth of the new Reiwa comic 'High School Aura Buster' in 'Omocha Hako'
Three years have passed since the end of Mio Wakaki's novel 'High School Aura Buster,' which ran for over 30 years from 1989 to 2021, and the comic book adaptation 'High School Aura Buster Engage' has been distributed on 'FuraComi Like!' since 2024. Yuuna Sasaki, the manga artist in charge of the comic book adaptation, spoke at the pop culture event 'Omocha Hako' about how the work was revived.

Sasaki is a manga artist who grew up in Muroran and currently lives in Sapporo. His most famous work is the 'Shacho to Anan' series, which has sold over 1.5 million copies.

Apparently because his works are erotic, he was seen as an 'erotic manga artist,' but after drawing 'High School Aura Buster,' he became a full-fledged 'psychic occult fantasy manga artist.'

Sasaki-san discovered the novel 'Aura Buster' when he was a teenager and became addicted to it, drawing doujinshi and uploading illustrations to his blog. Even after he debuted as a manga artist, he continued to upload his illustrations.
As time passed, the artist, Wakagi, started X, so I followed him and he followed me back, and sometimes Wakagi would look at Sasaki's drawings that he posted on his blog.
'Aura Buster' gained popularity in the 1990s when it was adapted into a comic by Makoto Mori, who was originally responsible for the illustrations of the novel version.
However, the work was left unfinished, and Sasaki thought, 'I hope I can draw the Aura Buster manga someday.' Then, when Sasaki contributed illustrations to the commemorative book published after the final episode of Aura Buster, Wakaki told him, 'I can leave Aura Buster to you,' and Sasaki decided to work on the Reiwa-era comic adaptation of Aura Buster under a new system.
Sasaki's 33-year-old Aura Buster series is being adapted into a new comic called High School Aura Buster Engage, with the first volume being released in June 2025.
