The market share trends of each version of Windows worldwide are as follows. Windows 11 (blue) has gradually increased its share since its official release in October 2021, and surpassed Windows 7 (yellow) in July 2022. It continued to slowly expand its share after that, and finally took the number one spot from Windows 10 (purple) in July 2025. As of July 2025, Windows 11 has a market share of 52%, while Windows 10 has a market share of 44.59%.

If we focus only on Japan, it looks like this. In Japan, the transition is progressing faster than the rest of the world, with Windows 11 taking the number one spot in April 2025. As of July 2025, Windows 11 will have a 52.25% market share, while Windows 10 will have a 45.38% market share.

In some countries, the transition is slow. For example, in China, Windows 10 still has the largest market share, with Windows 10 at 51.86% and Windows 11 at 32.39% as of July 2025. Windows 7 also has 11.96% remaining.

Mainstream support for Windows 10 is scheduled to end on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. However, Microsoft has stated that it will provide the Extended Security Update (ESU) program to both individuals and businesses until 2026. The ESU program for individuals is available free of charge if certain conditions are met. Details are summarized in the following article.
