DM and highlight features now available on Threads

After two years since its launch, Meta's social networking service Threads has finally added the ability to send and receive direct messages, as well as a new feature to highlight important parts.

According to Meta, more than a third of daily Threads users follow different people on Threads and Instagram, indicating that Threads is establishing its own user base.

Meta explains that the introduction of DMs and highlights is part of their efforts to make Threads the best place to share fresh perspectives and open conversations.

The DM feature was one of the most requested features by users. It is currently limited to Threads followers who are both 18 years of age or older, or mutual followers on Instagram. In the future, it will be possible to use a dedicated message request folder to decide who to message, including people you don't follow.

The highlights feature is designed to 'elevate and highlight unique perspectives that lead to thoughtful conversations.' It will initially highlight trending topics to help users discover content, and will be rolled out to more places in the future.

Heading into Threads' third year, Meta is committed to focusing on supporting the community and creators, highlighting fresh perspectives, and maintaining a space where conversation and community can thrive.
