According to information obtained by Bloomberg from people familiar with the matter, Nintendo has stopped official sales of Nintendo products on Amazon.com after third-party sellers were selling them in the US at prices below Nintendo's advertised prices. The people said that ambitious sellers were buying up large quantities of Nintendo products in Southeast Asia, importing them to the US and reselling them.
Amazon proposed to Nintendo that they put a label on their products to ensure that they were genuine. Amazon thought that this would reassure buyers that the products were not counterfeit and make it easier to track the products. However, Nintendo did not think this proposal was enough and decided to stop selling its products on Amazon.com in the United States.
According to game media reports, it seems that Nintendo products have started to be listed less on Amazon.com since around 2024. Products marked 'Sold by Amazon' usually indicate that Amazon purchased the product directly from the brand. If a Nintendo product is marked 'Sold by Amazon,' it means that it is an official Nintendo product. At the time of writing, some Nintendo products remain on Amazon.com, but these are listed by third-party sellers who sell products on Amazon's online marketplace.

However, in response to Bloomberg's inquiry, a Nintendo spokesperson simply said, 'There is no truth to this. We do not disclose details of negotiations or contracts with retailers,' without providing any further details.
Meanwhile, an Amazon spokesperson responded, 'Bloomberg's report about our relationship with Nintendo is inaccurate. Amazon is pleased to offer Nintendo products directly to customers as part of our commitment to providing the widest possible selection and an exceptional shopping experience,' but again did not provide further details.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is available at game retailers such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Gamestop, but is not available on Amazon.com at the time of writing. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 is available on Amazon in Canada, Japan, and the UK.
In addition, at the time of writing, Amazon's name was not on the 'authorized retailer list' published by Nintendo of America, Nintendo's American subsidiary.
