Immediately after President Donald Trump announced the US military's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, his social media site, Truth Social, experienced a major outage. Initially, the outage was believed to be caused by a surge in traffic to a message posted by Trump announcing the successful attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, but it has been reported that a hacker group affiliated with Iran has claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Truth Social.

At around 7:46 p.m. on June 21, 2025, President Trump reported to Truth Social that the United States had attacked Iranian nuclear facilities. In the post, Trump said, 'The United States has joined Israel's war against Iran,' and announced attacks on three nuclear-related facilities in Iran.

He added, 'All planes are now out of Iranian airspace. Massive bombs have been dropped on key locations.' 'All planes are returning safely,' he said. 'Congratulations to our great American warriors. There is no other military in the world that could accomplish this. Now is the time for peace!'

Immediately after this post, at around 8 p.m. on the same day, Truth Social experienced a major outage. Users who tried to access Truth Social reported seeing error messages such as 'Network failed' and 'Please try again.' on X (formerly Twitter).

DownDetector, a website that monitors service outages, saw a surge in reports of outages during this time. In addition, NetBlocks, an organization that monitors Internet connectivity, also announced that 'Truth Social has been experiencing global connectivity issues since around 9 p.m.,' and pointed out that this is occurring regardless of national Internet shutdowns or filtering.

Initially, some speculated that the problem may have been caused by API congestion due to a sudden increase in access due to Trump's posts, but it was later revealed that the outage was not simply the result of a concentrated access, but was the result of a cyber attack.

A spokesperson for the non-profit think tank Center for Internet Security (CIS) confirmed that the Iran-linked cyber attack group 313 Team claimed responsibility for the DDoS attack against Truth Social.

The 313 Team is part of a larger hacktivist network that also works with pro-Russian and pro-Palestinian groups, and aims to disrupt public infrastructure, government websites and technology companies in Israel and its allies.

This attack occurred amid rising military tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States. Since Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, a chain of retaliation has continued, with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) warning that 'cyber attackers associated with the Iranian government may target the United States,' and CIS similarly pointing out that 'the possibility of cyber attacks increases if the United States attacks Iran or openly supports Israeli military operations.' If the 313 Team's claim of responsibility is true, this warning has become a reality.
