'The United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket carrying satellites for Amazon's Project Kuiper internet satellite constellation has been successfully ignited and launched, ushering in a new chapter in low-Earth-orbit communications,' United Launch Alliance launch commander Ben Chilton said in a live broadcast after the launch.

'With many launches coming up, we've accomplished two launches in less than two months and are already preparing for our next mission, thanks to the hard work of Amazon's Project Kuiper team and our partners in United Launch Alliance,' Rajeev Badial, Amazon's vice president of technology for Project Kuiper, said in a LinkedIn post .

This launch brings the total number of Project Kuiper satellites deployed in low Earth orbit to 54. Amazon ultimately plans to launch 3,236 satellites, and by the July 2026 deadline set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) , it needs to launch 1,618 satellites, half of the total.

Most of Project Kuiper's satellite launches are contracted to the United Launch Alliance, with eight launches planned for the Atlas V rocket and 38 launches for its successor, the Vulcan , but Amazon has also contracted with other partners, and Project Kuiper satellites will also be launched on rockets from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Europe's Arianespace .

The pricing model for Project Kuiper has not yet been announced, but Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in a message to shareholders in 2024 that 'Project Kuiper will be a significant revenue opportunity for Amazon.'
