Intel to cut factory workforce by up to 20% to restructure finances

It has been revealed that Intel plans to reduce its workforce by 15% to 20% in July 2025. The cuts are expected to be mainly aimed at factory workers, and Naga Chandrasekaran, vice president of manufacturing, said in a message to employees, 'This is a difficult decision, but it is essential to meet Intel's economic challenges and financial situation. It will be painful for each and every one of us.'

On June 14, 2025, Chandrasekaran sent a memo to employees announcing plans to cut staff by 15% to 20% to address the economic challenges and financial situation facing Intel. The cuts are scheduled to be implemented in July 2025, and Oregon Live, a local newspaper in Oregon, confirmed the contents of the memo to four Intel employees.

Intel did not comment on Chandrasekaran's memo but said in a statement, 'As we make these important decisions, we treat our employees with care and respect. By removing complexity from our organization and empowering our engineers, we can better meet customer needs and strengthen our execution. We are making these decisions after careful consideration of what is necessary to position our business for the future.'

The job cuts are expected to take place at Intel's factories around the world, with the biggest impact expected in Oregon, where 20,000 people are employed. Intel has already cut 15,000 jobs in 2024, including 3,000 in Oregon.
