I tried using Nissin Foods' innovative gadget 'Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker' that never fails to make Chicken Ramen's 'Shirotama'

Since 2003, Nissin Foods' Chicken Ramen has had a depression in the center of the noodles called an 'egg pocket' to make it easier to put an egg on top. In a TV commercial, they show how 'you pour hot water over the egg on top and wait three minutes, and the egg-topped Chicken Ramen with a beautifully set white is complete,' but in reality, it's quite difficult to solidify the white. So Nissin Foods developed the ' Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker ,' which allows anyone to easily solidify the egg in Chicken Ramen. The actual product was sent to the GIGAZINE editorial department, so we tried using it.

The 'Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker' that arrived is modeled after the large head of the image character, Chick-chan . Below is a comparison of the size next to a bag of Chicken Ramen.

The weight of the unit alone is 392g.

The top of the head is a lid that can be opened.

The inside of the upper half was lined with rubber. The lid on the top of the head was like a button, and when pressed, the tension of the rubber would return it to its original position.

When we took it apart further, we found that it was roughly divided into four parts. The bottom half was a bowl, and the top half was the hot water tank where the hot water was poured.
To see if this would really solidify the egg whites, I prepared some Chicken Ramen and eggs.

First, place the Chicken Ramen horizontally in the lower half of the bowl, with the egg pocket on top.

Then gently drop the egg into the egg pocket.

Put on the top half.

Remove the top lid and pour in boiling water.

If you pour hot water up to the internal step, it will hold exactly 400ml.

Once you've poured in the hot water, close the lid on top.

Press the lid firmly and turn it clockwise to secure it in place. This allows the hot water poured into the hot water tank to trickle over the Chicken Ramen.

Once the lid is secured, wait 3 minutes.

The timer goes off and the lid of the 'Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker' is opened in the following movie.
The egg white is perfectly set. Normally, when you pour hot water from a kettle or pot, the water pressure can cause the egg white to fall out of the egg pocket, but with the Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker, the hot water is poured slowly over the egg, so the white doesn't fall out of the egg pocket and remains firmly set.

When I tried it, the egg white was a little softer than soft-boiled, and had a creamy texture. I was surprised because I had never cooked the egg white so well before. However, perhaps because the hot water is poured in little by little, the concentration of the Chicken Ramen itself was uneven, so I had to stir it a little.

The Chicken Ramen Shirotama Maker will be a prize that will be given to a total of 1,000 people in two lottery draws, from June 1st (Sun) to July 31st (Thu) 2025 and from August 1st (Fri) to September 30th (Tue) 2025.
