Using the Google Lens search feature in YouTube Shorts, for example, if you want to visit a location where a Short video was filmed, you can search for landmarks in the background to identify the location, or learn about the culture and history associated with the location.

The steps to use are as follows:
- Tap a short video from the home screen or the Short Videos tab of the YouTube mobile app to open the short video player.
- Tap the screen to pause the short video.
- Select 'Lens' from the menu at the top, then tap any object on the screen to search it with Google Lens.
-Search results are displayed overlaid on the short video.

In an announcement on May 30, 2025, Google said, 'We will begin rolling out the beta version to all viewers this week.' At the time of writing, the lens function was not yet displayed in the top menu.

During the beta period of the Lens feature, ads will not be displayed in search results. In addition, the Lens feature cannot be used in short videos that include affiliate links for YouTube Shopping or paid product promotions.

TechCrunch, an IT news site that covered this announcement, commented, 'Given that TikTok and Instagram Reels don't offer similar features, it makes sense for Google to use Google Lens to enhance search capabilities for YouTube Shorts viewers.'
