It was first reported in March 2025 that Apple was planning a major redesign for iOS 19, iPad 19 and macOS 16.

However, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple-related inside information, said that Apple's OS design revamp plans are not limited to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but that watchOS and tvOS may also undergo major design changes. It also appears that visionOS will undergo some design revisions. This major redesign will be based on a new design language named 'Solarium.'
Regarding Apple's major OS overhaul plans, 9to5Mac points out, 'This means that Apple's new, modern design language will be applied to the entire software platform for Apple's devices. Apple is aiming for a certain consistency and uniformity across the OS, and users can expect a variety of new design elements, such as the use of transparent and glass-like materials, changes to in-app navigation hierarchy, and new icons.'
Apple is scheduled to hold WWDC25 in June 2025, and the official artwork for this WWDC25 features a glass-like reflective 3D icon depicting the Apple Park Rainbow Stage. 9to5Mac pointed out that this expression suggests that Apple's next OS will make extensive use of translucent tones and a glass-like appearance.

While the Apple Watch's software has been updated several times, Apple TV's tvOS has remained largely unchanged since 2015. 9to5Mac pointed out that 'Currently, the design of tvOS gives the impression of being quite different from the visual design language used in iOS. However, this seems to be changing as the biggest OS visual overhaul since iOS 7 unifies the look of all platforms.'
The design of the next OS is expected to be inspired by the visual style of visionOS, but Garman said that Apple is trying to harmonize the design across all platforms, so there may be some tweaks to the UI.
