Which Year - Photo Year Guessing Game

https://whichyr.com/

Which Year can be played for free from your browser. When you first open the page, a tutorial is displayed. The rules of the game are simple: guess the year the displayed photo was taken between 1850 and 2025. The closer the guessed year is to the correct answer, the higher the score you can get, and the total score of the five photos will be tallied.

The first photo is displayed. By moving the slider, you can guess the year of the photo.

You can also select numbers and enter them directly.

If you click 'REVEAL DIGIT', you will be shown one of the four digits of the year as a hint.

Select which of the four digits you want to display.

In this photo, we can see that the tens digit is '9.'

The photo is in color and has a 9 in the tens digit, so it's from the 1990s. However, based on the feel of the photo and the fact that he is holding an item called 'Pac-Man Fever,' I deduce that it's not that new, so I enter '1990' and click 'GUESS.'

The correct answer was 1993. If you get it exactly right, you get 1000 points, but this time I got 976 points because there was a 3-year error. Click 'NEXT' to go to the next question.

The next picture shown was a black and white family photo. Although it was black and white, the picture was clear, so I guessed it couldn't be as old as the 1800s, so I answered '1930.'

The second question was answered incorrectly, with the answer being 1955, so he only got 292 points. The answer page included a detailed description of the photo, which said it had belonged to an American businessman who was executed in 1961 for anti-revolutionary activities in a Havana theme park.

The third question is the following photo of a TIME writer with a computer. To take a closer look, click on the icon in the bottom right of the photo.

You can enlarge the photo to see it in full. The computer in the photo doesn't look new, but it's not too old either. There's also a typewriter on the left.

The correct answer to the third question was 1986.

The fourth question is a black and white photo of people gathered at a baseball stadium.

The correct answer to question 4 is 1929. This is a photo of the first World Series held at

Wrigley Field in Chicago, between the Chicago Cubs and the then Philadelphia Athletics.

The fifth question was a photo of young people gathered together playing computer games.

When I answered with the image that young people were able to use computers casually to a certain extent, I got the correct answer in 2000 and got 1000 points. The challenge ends with a total of 5 questions, so you can see the results by clicking 'VIEW RESULTS'.

The total score this time was 3618 points. There were two questions that were far off, so even looking at the overall graph, the results were quite low. A tip is to display all five questions in the 'tens digit' if there are hints, and then just guess whether it's the 1800s, 1900s, or 2000s, and you can aim for nearly 900 points every time, so it looks like you can aim for a high score. However, I found the tens digit to be the most difficult, so it's also fun to try to guess without any hints without worrying about the score.

You can also see for each question what year most people guessed the photo was from.

Once you have tried Which Year, you cannot try the same problem again, but the questions change every day. You can also try past questions by clicking 'Archive'.

Since I had already attempted the question for May 15, 2025, there was a check mark, so I clicked on May 14.

A new problem appeared.

You can also copy the score you earned that day and post it to social media by clicking 'Share Results.'

When you paste it, it looks like this. You can share the date, your score, and the URL for Which Year.
