YouTube to add '4x speed feature' to celebrate 20th anniversary

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025 local time, YouTube celebrated the 20th anniversary of

the first video being posted. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, YouTube has announced new features such as the ability to play videos at 4x speed and a revamped YouTube UI for TV.

◆ Play videos at 4x speed
YouTube Premium subscribers can now play videos at up to 4x speed on the YouTube smartphone app.

◆Create your own radio show
A new feature called ' Ask Music ' will be added, allowing users to create their own radio show by selecting their favorite music genre. Ask Music is available on YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. Song tweaks are also available to English users in some countries, and the scope of the tweaks will be expanded in the future.

◆ UI revamp of YouTube app for TV
The UI of the YouTube app distributed for various smart TVs will be revamped. The revamped UI will make it easier to adjust the playback position and picture quality, and will allow smooth access to comments and channel information. The new UI is scheduled to be released around summer 2025.

Tests are also being conducted on multi-view, which allows multiple videos to be displayed side-by-side on a single screen.

As of April 2025, YouTube has an average of more than 20 million videos posted per day, and the total number of videos has reached more than 20 billion. YouTube has also released a celebratory video packed with material from its 20-year history, such as Rick Roll , PPAP , and The Backrooms .
