Sigma's interchangeable lens camera 'Sigma BF' exterior review, a unique mirrorless camera with a metal lump-like appearance, 'pressure-sensitive haptic buttons' and '230GB built-in storage'

Sigma's full-frame sensor mirrorless camera ' Sigma BF ' will be released on April 24, 2025. The Sigma BF is a camera with unique specifications, such as a pressure-sensitive haptic button and 230GB of built-in storage instead of an SD card slot. I was able to touch the Sigma BF early, so I first took a closer look at its appearance and grip.

This is the Sigma BF. The only thing on the front is the body cap and a lens removal button. The body is machined from an aluminum ingot over a period of seven hours. It comes in two colors, black and silver, and I borrowed the silver one this time.

The sensor is a 35mm full-size back-illuminated CMOS sensor with a total pixel count of approximately 23.5 million and an effective pixel count of approximately 24.6 million. The lens mount is an L-mount.

On the back are the live view monitor, status monitor, rotary dial/cross pad, decision button, media button, menu button, and power button. The buttons are pressure-sensitive haptic buttons, which do not wear out physically, so you can continue to use them with the same feel as when you first bought them.

The live view monitor is a TFT color LCD with an aspect ratio of 3:2, a size of 3.15 inches, and a pixel count of approximately 2.1 million. It also supports touch operation.

There is a hole for a strap on the left side.

The right side is equipped with a USB Type-C port. The standard is

USB 10Gbps .

The only button on the top is the shutter button.

There is a tripod screw hole on the bottom.

This lever is for removing the battery. Slide the lever until it clicks and the battery will come out.

The battery is located here.

The battery model number is '

BP-81 '.

The combined weight of the Sigma BF and battery is 495g.

By the way, the Sigma BF does not have an SD card slot, but instead has a large storage capacity of about 230 GB built in. When I checked the storage capacity on the menu screen, it was displayed as '231 GB'.

This is what it looks like when you attach the prime lens '

35mm F2 DG ' to the Sigma BF.

Taken from a different angle.

The weight of the Sigma BF with the 35mm F2 DG attached was 813g with the hood attached and the lens cap removed.

Equipped with

a 90mm F2.8 DG .

From a different angle.

The Sigma BF with the 90mm F2.8 DG attached weighed 801g, with the hood attached and the lens cap removed.

This is what it looks like when you hold the Sigma BF with the 90mm F2.8 DG attached.

Your thumb will be stabilized as it hooks onto the protruding part on the back.

The front side is flat, so there is no place to hook your fingers. If you hold the camera in the basic way, supporting the body and the underside of the lens with your left hand, you won't have any problems, but if you're shooting while gripping the camera with only your right hand, you need to be careful not to drop the body.

The Sigma BF is scheduled to be released on April 24, 2025, and the price on the official online shop is 385,000 yen including tax. At the time of writing, pre-orders are being made at camera stores and electronics retailers, and reservations can be made at Map Camera Rakuten Ichiba for 349,679 yen including tax.
