Anthropic launches AI chatbot for universities: Claude for Education
Anthropic, the developer of the AI chatbot Claude, has announced that it will launch a new plan called ' Claude for Education ' for higher education institutions such as universities on April 2, 2025.

One of the unique features of Claude for Education is that it goes beyond simply providing answers to questions, providing questions to test comprehension, existing research papers, outlines, and templates that may help students learn critical thinking skills. This feature is called 'Learn Mode' and builds on ' Projects ,' which allows you to create your own self-contained workspaces.
Claude for Education can be used by faculty and staff alike, allowing them to create syllabi and assessment frameworks using AI, while university administrators can automate email responses to general inquiries.
Additionally, Claude for Education comes with 'enterprise-grade' security and privacy protections on top of the standard chat interface: Anthropic says, 'By default, we don't use student data to train our generative models and we maintain security standards that meet compliance needs.'
Anthropic is committed to transparency and will 'honestly share what Claude can and cannot do, so you can make informed decisions about how AI can fit into your educational environment.'
Anthropic said it has partnered with Instructure, the developer of the educational software platform Canvas, to help universities integrate Claude into their systems. Anthropic also reports that it has already signed 'campus-wide agreements' with Northeastern University, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Champlain College, and others to make Claude for Education available to all students, faculty, and staff.
LSE President Larry Kramer said: 'Since its founding, LSE has been at the forefront of understanding societal change and finding solutions to real-world challenges, and this new partnership is part of that mission.'
To use Claude for Education, you will need to consult with Antropic's education team and enter into a contract.
