Gemini in Google Drive's PDF summary and content understanding function now supports more than 20 languages, including Japanese

Google's AI assistant 'Gemini' is also integrated into Google Drive, and some subscription users can use it to understand and summarize the contents of PDF files. Until now, this function was only available in English, but it has been announced that it now supports 28 languages, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, and French.

In July 2024, it will be possible to work with all kinds of PDF files, whether they are scanned documents, files created directly in Adobe Acrobat or similar programs, files containing multiple tables, or large files with a lot of writing, and to summarize the contents, extract specific information, use PDF content to create new content, and combine it with other files to create more detailed information.

However, until now, the supported languages were limited to English, but in an announcement on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 (local time), it was revealed that 28 languages, including Japanese, will be supported. The additional supported languages are as follows.

The service is available to users of the Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium add-ons. It is also available to those who have previously purchased Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise.
