It has been reported that Han Jong-hee, vice chairman and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics, a major South Korean electronics manufacturer, has died of a heart attack. He was 63 years old. Han was the spiritual pillar of the company's television division, and was known within the company as 'Mr. Rhinoceros' for his strong work ethic and determination to overcome challenges.

Han was born in 1962. He studied electronic engineering at Inha University and joined Samsung in 1988.
After working in the display business, he became head of the electronics device division and was a key figure in Samsung's rapid growth in the television business.
Han became president of the visual and display business in 2017, and was promoted to vice chairman in a management shake-up at the end of 2021, while also taking on the role of head of the Device Experience division, which oversees televisions, home appliances and smartphones.
Samsung said of Han, 'He has helped Samsung become a global leader in the television business and contributed to the company's growth as a leader in a challenging business environment.'
Samsung is in fierce competition with SK Hynix and others over semiconductors, and changed to a two-CEO system in November 2024 as a leveraging measure. It had just appointed Jeon Young-hyun, vice chairman and CEO of the device solutions division, as co-CEO alongside Han.
According to Samsung, there will be no new co-CEO to replace Han, and Chun will continue to serve as CEO alone.
