Reports that when ordering a new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D from Amazon, a counterfeit product with a sticker was delivered
There have been reports of people buying AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D on Amazon only to find it was a fake with a sticker on top. The fake was shrink-wrapped in a box, making it look like it was brand new.

Hardware Busters, a gadget news site, said that they needed to add a Ryzen 7 9800X3D for CPU testing, so they ordered a new Ryzen 7 9800X3D from Amazon.de (Germany) on February 25. The order was shipped on February 27 and arrived on March 4, but because they were busy with other benchmarks, they were not able to open it until March 9.

Here's what the back looks like. Hardware Busters says, 'I thought it was totally authentic until I opened the box.'
However, as soon as he took it out, he realized it was a heat spreader that was clearly not for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
The genuine AMD Ryzen 9000 series heat spreader on the left has a unique design with notches on the top, bottom, left and right. Looking at the fake on the right, the engraving itself seems to be quite random.
The AM5 socket used in the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an 'LGA' type that has pins on the socket rather than the CPU, so the fact that the CPU has pins makes it clearly a fake.
There was a sticker on top of the heat spreader, and when I peeled it off, a completely different processor was engraved on it.
Hardware Busters said it purchased the processor new directly from Amazon, not from a third-party seller, and that 'Amazon needs to thoroughly investigate where it got this processor from and warn AMD.' Hardware Busters is in the process of requesting a refund from Amazon, which will take up to three weeks to process.
