OpenAI states that 'AI has the power to drive research and education,' but also points out that 'for AI to be useful in research and education, people need to have the right tools to use AI.' NextGenAI is a consortium established to provide research institutions with the 'right tools to use AI.' The consortium consists of the following organizations:
・OpenAI
・California Institute of Technology
California State University
Duke University
・University of Georgia
・Harvard University
・Howard University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
University of Michigan
・University of Mississippi
・Ohio State University
・University of Oxford
・Sciences Po Paris
・Texas A&M University
・Boston Children's Hospital
・Boston Public Library
OpenAI will provide research institutions with $50 million in funding and access to APIs, and will support the use of AI in research activities and the development of educational curricula for the correct use of AI. For example, Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital are developing technology to use AI to improve the speed of diagnosis of rare diseases.

OpenAI's technology is also being used in libraries. The Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford uses OpenAI's API to transcribe old documents and make them more searchable. The Boston Public Library is also using AI to digitize public domain materials to make information accessible to all users.

'We are excited about advancing AI research and education,' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement.
