On March 3, 2025, at the mobile device trade fair 'MWC,' Deutsche Telekom unveiled the 'AI Phone,' a concept it had previously announced. It introduced the features that the AI Phone will have.

The main feature of the AI Phone is the AI assistant '

Perplexity Assistant ' developed by AI company Perplexity. This assistant is described by Perplexity as 'a device that can perform a wide range of voice-activated tasks on your Android device, allowing you to ask simple questions, take simple actions, and perform complex tasks,' and Deutsche Telekom states that 'the AI Phone can dispatch a taxi, make restaurant reservations, translate in real time, order food, process images, compose emails, and more.'

Perplexity Assistant is merely a 'major feature,' and in addition to Perplexity's AI, various AI services will be supported, including ' Google Cloud AI ,' which can recognize objects with a camera and translate signs around town, ' ElevenLabs ,' which converts text to speech, and ' Picsart ,' which edits images. Deutsche Telekom calls these services 'Magenta AI,' and says it will focus on Magenta AI to strengthen its AI functions.

Magenta AI can be quickly accessed from the AI Phone's lock screen. In addition to the AI Phone, the AI can also be used by using Deutsche Telekom's official app 'MeinMagenta.' Deutsche Telekom said, 'AI Phone and Magenta AI combine cutting-edge technology with everyday convenience. With the AI Phone, you can intuitively use the AI assistant without switching apps. This is the future of AI innovation. The days of chaos, like a jungle of a plethora of AI apps, are over,' suggesting that a distinctive feature of the phone is that users can leave all of their AI apps to one assistant, rather than managing them themselves.

Perplexity said it was 'proud to partner with Deutsche Telekom' and showed a video showing its AI capabilities in action.

No hardware details about the AI Phone have been released. The AI Phone is expected to be officially announced in the second half of 2025 and will be priced at less than $1,000. It will only be available in the European market.
