In response, a Google product expert said, 'Pride Month isn't the only month that was removed from the default settings. Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month , and Hispanic Heritage Month were also removed. Please use the feedback option in Google Calendar to let the development team know that you'd like them back.'
When technology media The Verge asked Google for comment on this matter, the company's spokesperson Madison Cushman Veld replied, 'For more than 10 years, we've worked with timeanddate.com to bring holidays and national anniversaries to Google Calendar. A few years ago, the calendar team began manually adding a wide range of cultural moments from countries around the world. However, we began to hear feedback that events and countries were missing, and we realized that manually maintaining hundreds of moments consistently around the world was not scalable or sustainable. So in mid-2024, we'll only show timeanddate.com holidays and national anniversaries around the world, and allow users to manually add other important moments.'
On the Google Calendar help page, there are many critical comments against Google, such as ' Boycott Google ,' ' Google is quickly becoming garbage. If this continues, Google will be thrown into the big dump. I'm not an Apple fan, but it seems like the whole ecosystem needs to change quickly, ' ' This is embarrassing. This is another example of a rapid descent into fascism. ... Despite removing these events, Google still had time to apply the name change to the Bay of America on Google Maps, even though this change only applies to the United States, ' ' This is a shame for Google. All minority forums such as Pride Month and Black History Month were ignored. It all seems to be a sham ,' and ' Google is not the 'good guy,' but just another big corporation chasing money. This is a great wake-up call for Americans that the EU needs to reconsider what it is doing and put in place some kind of guardrail against big corporations that do not put the interests of the people first .'
