I tried out Yamazen's compact cooler 'YEC-RD03' that can be placed on a table and blows cool air at an ambient temperature of -7°C.

The scorching heat is getting more and more intense every day, and even if you're indoors, you could collapse from heatstroke, so you can't leave places without an air conditioner. However, some rooms don't have air conditioners, and installing one would require extensive construction. Yamazen's compact air conditioner, the YEC-RD03 , is a compact-sized cooler that can be used anywhere there is an outlet, and it can also be used on a desk, making it very convenient. We tried out the YEC-RD03 to see just how convenient it really is.

The outer box of the YEC-RD03 looks like this. The catchphrase is 'Your own coolness all to yourself.'

The YEC-RD03 body looks like this. The dimensions are 20cm wide x 19cm deep x 42cm high.

View from the front.

The operation panel and air outlet are located at the top of the front. The operation panel is touch-sensitive.

On the back there is a handle for carrying, an intake port, and a heat exhaust port.

It weighs approximately 5.3 kg, and is easily portable if you hold the handle on the back and the bottom.

The filter frame at the top of the rear intake is removable.

The power cord is approximately 1.5m long.

In addition to the main unit, there was an instruction manual and two exhaust duct parts.

Installation is very easy; just place the YEC-RD03 and plug the power cord into an outlet.

When I tapped the power icon on the touch panel on the front, the YEC-RD03 started up. There is no need to connect it to the outdoor unit; just place the unit, plug in the power cord, and turn it on.

The following movie shows the actual startup of the YEC-RD03. You can check the operating sound and wind force.

I took a picture of the YEC-RD03 with the FLIR infrared camera before turning it on.

One minute after turning it on. You can see that the temperature has dropped because cold air is coming out of the air outlet. According to the official specs, the temperature of the cold air is 7°C below the ambient temperature, so the drop is roughly in line with the specs.

The wind was strong enough that when I placed a piece of memo paper in front of the vent, it fluttered right up.

The operating noise is quite loud, and when I measured it with a noise app, it was about 80 decibels about 10 cm directly in front of the air outlet. At normal usage distances, it is about 50 decibels, so if you use it in a small, quiet room, the operating noise level is quite annoying.

The YEC-RD03 is a heat exchange type cooler, so at the same time as it blows out cool air, hot air is expelled through the exhaust vent on the back.

If you place it right up against the wall, the exhaust won't have an escape route, so you'll need some space behind it when you set up the YEC-RD03. However, the temperature of the exhaust isn't that high; when I measured it with a FLIR it was around 40 degrees.

Of course, you can simply exhaust the air into the room, but if you want to cool the entire room, you can attach an exhaust duct to the exhaust port on the back to allow the hot exhaust air to escape outside the room, making cooling more efficient.

There are three modes: dry, cooling, and fan. The cooling and fan modes have two wind strength settings: strong (H) and weak (L). In addition, timer operation is also possible, and you can choose from 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, and 8 hours.

The moisture generated by cooling accumulates in the tank on the back.

Simply remove the lid and discard the water. The simple structure makes it easy to clean.

The YEC-RD03 is compact and can be placed anywhere, so for example, you can place it on a desk or at your feet while working to prevent heatstroke, or next to your dresser to keep the air cool and prevent sweating when putting on makeup. I felt that this cooler met the needs of those who want to blow cool air in a pinpoint for a short period of time, rather than using it for an extended period to cool the entire room.
